New Helvetia Hotel: The Jewel of the Mountains With Vision and Growth Dynamics
Platres , August 2025

The New Helvetia Hotel in Platres is one of the most important living monuments of the hotel history of Cyprus. It is the first and only Historic Hotel of Cyprus officially by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

With a track record of more than 100 years, it remains to this day the oldest hotel in continuous operation on the island, combining its rich cultural heritage with modern hospitality services.
From 1906 to the modern era
Its history begins in 1906, when the Limassol businessman Nikolaos Kypriotis founded the first Grand Hotel Helvetia in Platres, bringing to Cyprus the air of European hotel culture. In 1929, the great expansion led to the creation of the three-storey New Helvetia, with its iconic architecture of red bricks, tiled roofs and classic Austrian furniture.

Strategic renovations and sustainable development
Today, New Helvetia Hotel maintains its authentic aesthetics, while investing in targeted renovations that upgrade the guest experience. The interventions focus on energy efficiency, sustainable operation and respect for tradition, maintaining the atmosphere of a historic hotel.

A new perspective in mountain tourism
The hotel's management invests in the diversification of the tourism product, with an emphasis on mountain tourism, wellness and authentic hospitality experiences. New Helvetia emerges as a key "case study" on how a historic site can combine the past with the needs of the modern market.

A brand with timeless value
With the pine trees of Platres as a backdrop, the New Helvetia Hotel continues to attract visitors from Cyprus and abroad, being living proof that heritage can be a competitive advantage. Its renovation, in addition to being an architectural upgrade, is also a business strategy that repositions the hotel on the map of modern hospitality.
